DNAD & YCN- the start of something beautiful!

Illustrated Book

  • Found Photographs
http://www.moderna.org/lookatme/
Collecting found photographs has become a "cultish" habit to some who frequent flea market and car boot sales. The facination with someone that we can never hope to locate is associated with voyerism and the interest in the un-known. When looking at one of these personal and often mundane photos I often find myself trying to imagine and construct who these people may be and why that photo was taken in the first place. I would like to create an illustrated book about someone that I DONT know and could never hope to, to construct their identity, mould their story.

Visually some of these "vintage" photos are facinating to me. I would like to experiment by recreating the scenes in a modern context and explore how I could become the person in the snap shot of time myself.

  • Lonely hearts

Lonely hearts ads still appear in newspapers and magazines despite the proliferation of internet dating. Like someone spending hours choosing the "best" photo of them to put on their facebook profile, the authors pick and choose what pieces of information they feel is most attractive and suitable to include. Using this format I would like to explore in book form how we present ourselves to people in a limited space. Everyone has secret passions that may not be apparent from first look. I would like to ask people to write their own adverts, and will explore visually what impressions they give to the readers by the descriptions they choose to use, and compare them with the reality...

I would also like to get people to write ads for others.... to see what they think about other people

Visually I find the newspaper facinating. I would like to get ads published through the traditional routes and see what happens!!!

for example mine could be:
female, 22. Extremely short but incredibly noisy. Likes to get a seat on the tube, has made out (subtly) that she is pregnant to ensure she gets one. Eats a lot of tuna, has 3 sugars in her tea.

  • Cive Pig- the story fella

his website
I had the pleasure of meeting this gentleman about a year ago at my shop, where he performed to a group of children THE most animated story I have ever seen. By the end of itI had stopped work and was dancing about with them, the strange thing, as you can see by the video, is that this man is REALLY odd. He takes himself VERY seriously, and he performs to both children and adults.
I contacted him last year for some of his stories for me to work with, some of which are scary and adult. He was very pleased that I seemed interested in him and his work.

I feel that this book could be inctredibly querky, like this man, and could be made up of interviews with his, transcripts of his stories, the stories themselves etc etc.
